The Australasian Railway Association reports 35 per cent of the Australian rail workforce will retire by 2035. More than a third of the entire rail workforce is aged over 50 years, and one in 10 aged over 60.
Retirement, in particular, represents a major life transition that can bring both anticipated and unexpected challenges. For many people, especially men, retirement can evoke feelings of grief and loss. This might include the loss of a career, a structured routine, professional identity, physical abilities, and workplace friendships. These experiences can leave individuals feeling isolated, overwhelmed, and unsure of how to move forward. Without the right knowledge and tools, it can be difficult to cope with these changes or support others effectively.
This webinar will focus on understanding and navigating the challenges of retirement. You’ll gain insights into the emotional and psychological impacts of this life stage, practical strategies for building resilience and finding new purpose, and tools for coping in both your personal and professional life.
We’ll also explore how to support others experiencing retirement-related grief, including what to say, what to avoid, and how to foster a supportive and empathetic environment. You’ll leave equipped with practical tips and access to resources, including Griefline’s free services and programs, to help yourself and others through this significant transition.
