5 Hour Accidental Counsellor Course

Designed for people who would like to be able to safety and effectively support friends, family, colleagues, and strangers who are in distress or experiencing a mental health crisis.

  • 1.5 hours self-directed eLearning.
  • 3.5 hour group session virtually with a Lifeline Trainer.

Delivered by Lifeline for TrackSAFE Foundation

The skills learnt in this course can be applied in many contexts, and will provide participants with skills in active listening, calming and effective gentle questioning.  It will provide you will basic skills and a structure to enable you to provide immediate support and assistance using the ‘Recognise, Respond, Refer’ model. You will also learn how to ask openly about suicide risk and respond safely whatever the answer.

This training is open to anyone and no pre-existing skills or knowledge are required.  It is well suited for Rail RUOK? Day Champions, those involved in peer support programs as well as rail workers with an interest in supporting colleagues, friends and family members experiencing poor mental health.

Accidental Counsellor by Lifeline uses a blended training model with 1.5 hours online self-directed eLearning followed by a 3.5-hour group session either face to face or virtually with a Lifeline Trainer.
